Van der Perren became the first male skater from Belgium to medal at the European Championships in 50 years
when he earned the bronze in 2007. Fernand Leemans had taken the bronze at the 1947 European
Championships. Van der Perren was also the first Belgian skater ever to medal at Junior World Championships.
Van der Perren has landed triple-triple-triple combinations in competition and quad loops in practice. Van der
Perren started to skate as a ten year old after watching an ice show.  At that time, it was his dream to star in the
show.
